Children & Weight
Using the BMI for Age Growth Charts will let you know if your child’s at a healthy weight:
BMI= weight (kg)/ height ² (m)
1) Find the weight in kg and the height in meters
2) Square the height
3) Divide the weight by the square of the height
4) Find the age of the child on the x-axis and the result of step 3 on the y-axis; match these up to see where they meet. This will show you whether the child is overweight, at risk of being overweight, of a normal weight or underweight.

Children should never be put on a diet, even if overweight. It is more important to try anf maintain the child's weight as his/her height catches up. The best aproach is to encourage a balanced diet and regular physical activity. Children need 60 minutes of physical activity daily. Look for ways to incorporate activity in everything you do, and make this as much fun as possible. Try to increase the amount of exercise you do together as a family whether it be playing football , swimming, rollerblading, or any activity the children enjoy!
